Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
