• NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

    Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked playing numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved away to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he would play many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus more on poker.

    The real improvement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would frequently wager against one another. He was able to access several of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

    Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
