Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
