• NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
