• No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
