Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
