Gaming chips have been made from a varied range of materials in an almost endless variety of styles since the advent of gambling and the need to keep an eye on winnings. The most common components used at this time in the creation of modern poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the oldest of the group, have been manufactured in America since the late 19th century.
Back in the 19th century, poker players seemed to use any tiny valuable object you can imagine. Early poker enthusiasts occasionally used jagged gold pieces along with chips – normally made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs started to play a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with ridges to hold them neatly arranged with each other.
There is little debate that poker has increased steadily in popularity since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of internet gaming and unique TV shows, public interest in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Most folks are first introduced to poker by TV showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will wager on their 1st hands on the net. Regardless of web poker’s rise, nothing competes with the feeling of shuffling heavy clay poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
