Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player.
